Scholarships for Palestinian students
Many talented Palestinian students cannot continue their education because they cannot pay for it. The Rahmah scholarship program removes that barrier for students in Palestine pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Who it is for
- Palestinian students in Palestine
- Enrolled in, or admitted to, an undergraduate or graduate program
How recipients are chosen
Scholarships are awarded on three criteria:
- Academic merit. The student's record and promise.
- Financial need. Whether the student could continue without support.
- Commitment to community. How the student serves, and plans to serve, the people around them.
The Executive Director and Board of Directors oversee the review and selection process, with input from educators and academic advisors who know the Palestinian education system.
How funds are paid
Scholarship funds are paid directly to the recipient's educational institution in Palestine, on the student's behalf.
Award amounts
In its first years the Foundation plans to award 5 to 10 scholarships a year, of between $500 and $2,000 each, covering tuition and other educational expenses. The number and size of awards will grow as funding grows. The Foundation does not make educational loans.
Keeping a scholarship
- Stay enrolled in your program of study and in satisfactory academic standing
- Provide a transcript and proof of enrollment each term
Funding may be suspended if these conditions are not met. Renewal depends on continued progress.
A fair process
Reviewers must declare any conflict of interest and step aside from decisions about applicants they know. Relatives of the Foundation's directors, officers, selection committee members and major donors are not eligible.
